Laser equipment often encounters a problem during summer operation: condensation. Condensation refers to the phenomenon where, when the surrounding temperature drops below the “dew point temperature” of the environment, the moisture in the air gradually reaches saturation until water droplets form on the surface of objects. Condensation can cause the electronic and optical modules inside the laser to be corroded by moisture, leading to issues such as corrosion, short circuits, and malfunctions, which severely impact the performance and lifespan of the laser.
Cold Water Machine Maintenance and Care Tips
Chillers are crucial for preventing condensation on lasers during the summer. Therefore, one important measure for preventing condensation on lasers is to regularly inspect and perform routine maintenance on chillers.

cycle |
Check that the cooling water circuit (laser, cladding head, and chiller) is connected properly and that the water level is within the specified range. If the water level is below the warning line, add cooling water. |
Before turning on the laser |
Check the water pipe connections for leaks, kinks, blockages, or other abnormalities. |
2 days/once |
Check whether the cooling water of the chiller is contaminated. If contaminated, replace the cooling water in a timely manner. |
1 month/once |
Check whether the air inlets and outlets of the chiller are ventilated smoothly to ensure that the chiller is used in a well-ventilated environment. |
1 month/once |
Regularly replace the circulating cooling water in the chiller. It is recommended to use purified water or distilled water. |
1 month/once |
Regularly remove and wash the dust filter of the chiller. |
2 weeks/once |
Regularly clean dust from the condenser of the chiller. |
2 weeks/once |
Once every two weeks: If the chiller has a filter, the filter cartridge needs to be replaced regularly. |

How to prevent condensation on lasers
1.Adjust cooling water temperature
Q: Cooling water is one of the key factors affecting condensation. If the cooling water temperature is too low, it will cause a large temperature difference between the inside and outside of the laser, thereby triggering condensation.
A: It is recommended to set the cooling water temperature to around 28°C and refer to the corresponding water temperature control range for different laser models.
2.improve the working environment
Q: The temperature and humidity of the working environment are also important factors affecting condensation. If the ambient temperature is too high or the humidity is too high, the moisture content in the air will increase, thereby lowering the dew point temperature.
A: It is recommended to place the laser in an independent, flat, vibration-free, and shock-free space, and install air conditioning or dehumidification equipment to keep the ambient temperature below 35°C and the ambient humidity below 60%.
3.Note the boot sequence
Q: The sequence of powering on and off can also affect condensation formation. Failing to follow the correct sequence when powering on or off can cause sudden temperature changes between the interior and exterior of the laser, leading to condensation.
A: When the ambient temperature is higher than 25°C, it is recommended to turn on and off the machine in the following way: Startup sequence: First, turn on the main power supply of the laser (with the air conditioner turned on). Let the air conditioner run for about 30 minutes. Then, start the supporting chiller and wait for the water temperature to rise to the preset temperature. Finally, start the laser for light output work. Shutdown sequence: First, stop the laser light output work, and turn off the light output signal and enable switch. Then, turn off the chiller. Finally, turn off the air conditioner (main power supply).
4.What to do if condensation occurs in the laser
1, if the laser is found to have condensation phenomenon, it should be immediately shut down;
2, the condensation on the outside surface of the laser will be wiped clean, to be completely eliminate the phenomenon of condensation and then start the laser work;
3, to the environment cooling and humidity reduction, to achieve the required range of areas.
5.Laser protection during rainy summer days
Frequent rainfall in summer, in order to protect the laser from rainstorms and weather damage, please disconnect the laser from the main power supply, in order to prevent electrical failures; electronic control cabinet laser, chiller to do the padding treatment, to prevent water damage to the equipment; if the plant terrain is low-lying, you need to arrange for personnel on duty, do a good job of flood prevention and waterlogging work, to avoid damage to property.If the equipment unfortunately involved in water, do not arbitrarily on the power test.
